I am pleased to announce that this photo of a Sandhill Crane mother listening to her baby was selected by the National Audubon Society for their 2013 Calendar. Only 14 photos were selected nationally. It is an honor, a privelege, and a pleasure to have this photo selected by an organization with such a noble purpose. The National Audubon continually work as advocates in protecting wildlife, birds, and our natural lands habitats.
This endearing photo of the Sandhill Crane mother listening to her new born chick as he tries to speak portrays the mother child bond as a universal bond that knows no bounds.
This photo was taken in Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, Homosassa Springs, Florida in February of 2011. I arrived at the park only hours after this little chick hatched. I was fortunate to see him walk, stretch his wings, and stumble and fall. All those moments were as magical as the first moments with my own son when he was having his first crawls, walks, words, and smiles. I feel very fortunate to have been able to capture these moments digitally to share with each of you.
